Our Story
PlantDoc is a fully biodegradable color change moisture meter made by a husband and wife team, Austin and Daphne, in Portland, Oregon.
“We created PlantDoc to help people to not be murderers of their houseplants. Many people don’t know the first thing about when to water their plants, which leads to sad, dead plants everywhere. Killing plants is a catastrophic global phenomenon!”
Once a banker, Daphne started a plant business (and had a baby!). At the same time Austin, a medical researcher, was observing ways to improve what was on the market to keep plants alive. What we found were tools that had too much waste and not enough ease-of-use or affordability for plant owners.
Tinkering and peeling apart what we saw led us to our “ah-hah!” moment to create fully biodegradable moisture meters with only the essentials needed to help plant parents – paper + color-change ink – and thus, PlantDoc was born!

Propelled by our kiddo’s color-change bath-books, we set off on our entrepreneurial journey to discover and make a product business that makes a difference both at home and for the environment.
